In The Silence of Her

Romance is not dead.
It is just done differently.
There are still people out there who are more "old fashioned" in today's fast-paced world and want to be in a real relationship.

© In The Silence of Her

You can’t step into the same river twice
I swallowed my drink, took a drag of my smoke
She smelled like lemon blossoms
I called her Spring
She laughed and called me wet between the toes
Always one step ahead of me in her
Perfectly round matching cultured pearl necklace
Hanging down her naked back
I pulled her into a dance
Across the dew-soaked lawn
Away from the river’s edge
All parks are cut from the same canvas

Grazing across her bare shoulder
Up her sensual sensitive long neck
A vulnerable mewl escaped her lips
Driving my desire
Her body inclined in my arms
Like a young tree in the wind
She was like caviar
After my years of home-baked beans
I could not get enough
I could drive for hours heading nowhere
And learn peace is found only with her
In the silence of her... I could be her silence forever

© Sipping Your Sangria

Someone said, “Love is a really scary thing, and you never know what’s going to happen. It’s one of the most beautiful things in life, but it’s one of the most terrifying. It’s worth the fear because you have more knowledge, experience, you learn from people, and you have memories.”

The road invented itself as
We galloped across the border
Into Mexico and I found
You sneaking into my poetry.

There was a stretch of land enclosed by
Dry pine-oaks protecting dahlias;
Here, between us, was a flattened
Pack of gum from your rear pocket.

The best nick-names are overused
Because of a dearth of imagination.
“I like a bit of Shakespeare, Wolfie.”
“I like the flick of a mermaid’s tail, Lady.”

A beggar tried to get you to peso up
Before he stooped to screw his
Cigarette butt into the dusty road.
Our lips pressed thin resisting grins.

Days were when we felt everything
At once or we felt nothing at all.
What’s worse? Drowning under waves
or dying from the thirst of love?

Mimi-Mona Poetry: Swallowing A Widespread Carpet of Burnt Umber and Sienna

Is there a way to swallow
the sands of the desert
without becoming the desert?

A habob storms in, runs away.
Your footsteps are no longer
seen; the feel of you beside
me suddenly disappears...
Left are the dust devils
carrying your memory.

After years, it was your
spirit I let inundate me.

Now when the wind picks up,
I feel the grit of the desert dust
and swallow the sounds before
I sink into the widespread
carpet of burnt umber and sienna.

Mimi and Mona's Poetry: LOST MEMORIES

I once read in a book that good memories are like jewels. We need to bring back the art of the love letter, on the most beautiful piece of stationary, with the finest calligraphy we can muster, and using an old-fashion fountain pen and ink. It’s difficult to tie a ribbon with love around a computerized note.

Today some yellowed envelopes fell;
among them was your silent ghost
divulging words of younger days when
our love was grand, our wits were few.
Tears quivered on lips where they fell
and I remembered how Cupid proved
that love was blind —for many years
in our niggardly romance.
I thought I’d forgotten, but it all
rushed back again. Then I found
a vinyl and played what was “our song”
causing more tears at aught askew
and my loving memories of you.

Mimi-Mona Poetry: You

©You

The way your open shirt blew
up against my bared breasts
hinted a breeze was present.
Or, did the blue denim cling?
Shelves of books held hands
with the table placed
prominently before the
open window, the flapping sheers.

Was it hot that afternoon
in my bedroom decorated
with discarded clothing?
Covers shoved to the floor
at the end of the bed
and our sweat-glistening,
sated bodies sharing moans
would lead one to believe so.

Your body under mine,
I stared down into your eyes
as if peering into a well
or a pool searching
beyond my own reflection
for something else,
something my outstretched
arm sought— you.

Mimi-Mona Romantic Poetry: Taxi Flats

©Taxi Flats

Bags packed, I'm running toward my dreams,
Something I've been planning for weeks.
Sharing words with you of my contentment...
I thought of it a thousand times.
Yes, it's simplistic but true, I could be
Safe in the shadows but never quite free,
And there are other places I could go but
None where I could stay if I didn't belong.

Putting on my Taxi flats
Picking up my bags and
That framed memory of you

Bandaged heels prevent road blisters;
Is it such a long way to my future?
The sweet, gentle breath of Zephyrus
Wreathes a comforting fragrance of
flowers around my gypsy heart
Staying the reveries of your many
Letters and photographs of days
spent in your attentive embraces.

Putting on my Taxi flats
Picking up my bags and
That framed memory of you

Mimi-Mona Poetry: Sleepwalking on A Tightrope

Mimi Wolske

©Sleepwalking on A Tightrope

Never wondering
Whether we'll survive
The forty-ninth parallel.
We are of good heart—
Without the stress,
Without the worry,
Without the pain—
Rooted to terra firma
With no wire
To balance love
Beneath our steady feet.
It is only in dreams
That someone greases
The tautly strung rope
And wishes us to slip,
Perhaps fall to our fates.
Preternaturally,
Our destinies endure
Together. Our love is not
A circus act and
We are not
Sleepwalking on a tightrope.

Mimi-Mona Romantic/Erotic Poetry: Waltzing with Beethoven

There is a stretch of desert road behind the neighborhood
that teeters on extinction as it rushes to 83rd.
We waltz with Beethoven on that desert road,
stopping only to sip ruby juices
and indulge in the breathy wetness of
each other's secret smiles and luscious, parted lips.
Waltzing with Beethoven is nothing
like our porch-swing romance
except for the one-two-three graceful glide
danced all through the starry night into dawn.

Mimi-Mona Poetry: Dawning

The first sure thing in the morning,
the first thing one open, blurry eye
manages to bring into focus,
is the recognizable glistening of his hair.
Filtered sun lifts me in his warm shirt;
cool wood creaks as if laughing
when my feet touch the floor;
a congress of chirping voices
chatter outside the open windows;
the pulse of the morning
gives birth to the beat of a new tattoo.
I could live endlessly
here on the lake with him
and feel we belong here together.
Sunrise stretches dawn's light;
it caresses us as we rise;
our love's and life's motions
are fresh, given and received,
repeated as the day ages.

Mimi-Mona Poetry: I Long to See

December 2014
Mimi Wolske - Mona Arizona™

When I open my eyes,
I look over
at your pillow
and dream you are there
next to me
Yes, you are far away
but there's something I know...
you will always
be near me
My eyelids fall,
I go back to sleep
and dream you are there
next to me
It's so easy to sleep
dreaming of you and
imagining you are there
near to me
In the cold morning
I look around
and I can see
you're not next to me
Tears are forced from
my eyes waiting
for you to come back
back to me
And I fall asleep
praying you'll hurry
home, knowing you're coming
back to me
That it's all a dream
I'm been imagining,
you will always be
near to me
But I feel the tears
and the ache in my heart
I keep hoping you're not
far from me
A silent promise
passes over my lips
I'll be here until you come
back to me
Then morning comes again
I open eyes and fear
you might still be
far from me
I long to see
if my imagination
played tricks and you're here
next to me
I long to see
I long to see-ee
that you're still here
next to me

Mimi-Mona Romantic Poetry: Patches of Nepal and Memories

I wore my purple and blue jacket this morning;
the one we saw at the open-air market,
that drew me like a lode stone; the one from Nepal.
I wish you could have been here, seen my happiness,
my surprise when the box arrived. I opened it
and wore the hand-made garment immediately.
Closing my eyes, wrapping my fingers about my
elbows, memories of our time together rushed
in with all the passionate desire I felt then,
with promises of its return each time I wear
the colorful patches of our love from Nepal.

Mimi-Mona Romantic Poetry: The Goodbye Kiss

©THE GOODBYE KISS
Mimi Wolske, October 2014

Crying
we—in total grips of despair
each—alone in Paradise
reluctant after a long, difficult discussion
you to sleep in your car
me to fly away home
bags packed
feeling something never felt before
never in our lives
giving
in—we kiss goodbye
fear—epic and uncontrollable
tears in our eyes, we're about to go our separate ways
Suddenly
constant flow of fear
plaguing us for the last hours
like a kink in the garden hose
races with every pulse
strong pressure builds
raging terror
vacation's end
Waiting
bags packed and
steps—a few taken forward
unknowing—can I do it
will you let me
highly aware of your fear
will she do it
can I stop her
is this the beginning
the start of something bad
the dangerous downward spiral
of not facing up to our fears
of having to turn it into something else
of losing the someone we each love
Creeping
returning—the fear we felt
reality—we will be apart
a series of ledges and cliffs
I cry out
I have agoraphobia!
Turning
you run toward me
embrace me...tightly
I'll never let you go, you cry
I'll never leave you, I sob
Kissing
we—the sweetest promise

It is never ending: it begins, it exists.
I have no alibi...I stole your heart
with lines written across your chest and
words drawn on your sated back...

It's the difference between being and been
you said this and I want to believe
that those who hurt us won't last
those who love us will

Love is like bindweeds
wrapping around itself
strengthening, burgeoning,
blossoming, existing, never ending

Mimi-Mona Poetry: I Knew That

                                            ©I Knew That
                               Mimi Wolske
                                         October 2014

By winter, will she have forgotten my hair is white now?
I forgot her birthday
                                    Again.
Late is okay she said.
Funny how guilt works like a roadmap
Where all the cities are sleep...or less.
And the car I was driving caught on fire
I'd like to say;
But that'd be dramatic,
                                    That'd be hyperbole.
Am I not too old for that? I'm too old for some things.
I have become an origami version of myself...
Still mobile but a lot stiffer in the joints.
Loneliness cannot be cured by recognizing it;
I know that.
In a vague sense, I also know
I'm totally open to that being false.
Hey, if you don't want to die in a metaphor,
You can't live in a metaphor.
Why is it the moon refuses to take my midnight calls?
What? You expected a reward for not softening
In the arms of women you do not care about?
It's answering machine says on Monday.
Tuesday: You get nothing for nothing.
By Wednesday you're ready to throw your phones
Off the top of Mount Columbia,
                                    And pray for ice,
But, with her, this could be the sort of life
Where things get smoothed over,
And you know that.
Dammit! I knew that, too.
I knew that like I know how to pant and gasp
In the middle of the morning
With the winter sun freezing my skin like caught salmon.
And so I start again.
A big part of my heart belongs to her, in Arizona,
And it's like I am made of lungs
Hyperventilating to share the same air
And to meditate on her.

Reflected in each dew drop,
the beauty of your smile.
I quench my thirst with each
and drink in your kisses.
I catch your lips with mine in
the unbroken water of the puddle;
our lovers' kiss is with lips not wet
yet soaked with desperation...
reflected nowhere, only felt.

He was looking at the moon but not really seeing it.
Since the first day, she'd shown him
He'd never been truly loved before.
With a single kiss, he could feel her soul and
He'd crave her innocently and unvirtuously, wickedly,
Wishing he could turn back the clock —
He'd be able to find her sooner and love her longer.

She cuddled and he played with her hair and
Kissed her forehead, each kiss a reminder
He loved her and he wanted her, only her.
He found himself listening for and recognizing
Her footsteps in every room and knew
She was coming to him. When had he
First begun to love her, even that part of her
He didn't understand? It seemed like forever.

She was home; she was two arms that held
Him tightly when he was at his worst. She
Waded in mistakes and problems with him,
Made the crash of the waves bearable,
Anchored him, made him feel stronger,
Completed that part of him that had disappeared.
She was the one who laughed at his jokes,
Whether they were funny or not...she laughed.

Mimi-Mona Romantic Poetry: Lovers Reuniting, Reuniting, Reuniting

Mimi Wolske

I wake to find you curled around my heart
your fingerprints and name written across it;
unable to drown you in my morning coffee
I stumble over words to describe our nights,
our afternoons, the way you make me pant
waking me in the middle of the night
hot with desire and want, the way
I scream when you make me come
in the morning as we share our shower.
We laugh and play and strain while
you pull me close to you no matter
how far away I stray, but never with
intentions of truly getting away from you.

I'm no shoeless prophet in some vast,
desolate, empty desert and, yes, I have
walked the fertile soil and sand of
your whispers. The temptation of
the thought of your tongue sends
shivers down my spine as I continue
thinking about how, when friends
ask me about my holiday, I'll smile
and secret my memories. Nostalgia
carries me through the days and nights.
There's a picture in my mind from an old movie—
it's of lovers reuniting —I see you and me
because that's what we remain,
reuniting lovers and, while you're away,
you endure curled around my heart.

You fulfill my longing for
every inch of my skin to by kissed
by your mouth, those mobile lips.
My mind bends at the realization
you have led me to believe... that
all those years building a fortress to
keep you out were in vain. You see
my crocodile tears, the ones I
intended to hide, and you are
confident of my love and the truth
that you continue curled around my heart.
You overwhelm me with love and
thoughtfulness and long-stemmed roses
when we are together; when we are apart,
I shred the shroud of your departure
to guarantee you will return and
we may continue reuniting as lovers.

Mimi-Mona Erotic Poetry: Lovers in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains

Cool breezes sneak in through
an open window of our
hotel room in Taos. Somewhere
between your car and the
bedspread, we leave a trail of
discarded clothes and begin nipping
bites on each other's bare skin,
playing at the start —serious
love bites by the time you
draw me onto the king-sized sheets.
Whispering secrets into each other's skin,
telling each other how long it has been,
calling each other pet names,
promising shared fantasies will be fulfilled,
we're voluble lovers starved for
everything the other willingly gives.
You tempt me like a boxer
teased in the ring by the bell —
just one more round...please.
I beg. Our nakedness makes our
sighs and moans sound like music...
we dance, my hands tied
above my head, your fingers
knotted around my hair at the
height of the dance, at the
crescendo of the music, and
you demand me to answer;
Who's your bone daddy, my sex slave?
Muted cries from the ghosts of
past passion join our chorus and
fill the rented room with
the Song of Lovers' Lust
joined by the whisper from the
breezes that sneak in through the
open window of our room
in this artist colony.

You say you like the way
I look, curly hair plastered
to my face, long legs naked
and entwined with yours,
graceful arms with feminine
hands and mobile fingers that
play with the hair on your chest.
Suddenly, we're apart. You say
stay there —don't move. I say
I have to go to the bathroom.
I don't own slippers; I pull
my cowgirl boots on and walk
naked in them to the door.
The breeze from the open window
of our room-for-one-night
in the tributary valley off the Rio Grande
furls my nipples. You chuckle.
I recount each moment of those
earlier hours and the reckless
part of me, that dangerous
voice inside of me, suddenly begs for you.
You knew? You press me against the
door before I can leave that confining
space and you kiss me the way
I was dying to be kissed again,
stretching out the moments
before inevitability sets in
with reality close on its heels.

Any right to refusal was
surrendered years ago when
we gorged ourselves on
desire and protected our emotions
from years of our teeth being cut
on neglect. You whisper my name;
suddenly my sea legs give way
to the weight of love. The way
you kiss my neck, my waist,
my hip bones, my inner thighs...
it is war and it's only
going to end with my
petites morts —thus with a
kiss I die here where
the breeze from the window
blows the curtains and I hear
them dance in our room
where we sever ties with daydreams,
in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Your mouth makes my body dance...
makes me scream...makes you
cover my mouth with your own.
I scream into it and feel
your lips curve up.
In the middle of this heat wave,
you pull me back to bed. I search
for words that will describe how
your shoulders curve when
you pull me to you, against
the solidity of your strong chest,
but I'm lost in the security of your arms.
