I think of how your bare skin
Looks next to mine
Piel con piel, hueso con hueso
And I just want to be naked
Emotion in motion
My mind losing all strategy
How do I span the distance
Between your crooked smile
And my impatient lips
I could count the words
You send to me in a day
On the ivories my tongue strokes
After your tongue stops the duel
Translation lost in spoken words
But never in how our bodies speak
Boca de piel desnuda
While your hands hold nothing
But my waist never failing
Never wavering to keep
Me still and standing
My face bent to the cracks
In the wooden floor
Listening to the traffic
On the street below
The open window because
There are no sounds
From you —not yet
Traitorous body can't be bridled
Piel de gallina en mi piel desnuda
Reveals my anticipation
My expectation
My exaltation
Each time you touch me
I am filled with an
Unmistakable feeling of bliss
Felt only with a new love
You understand what I crave —
Sweaty, who-cares-if-someone-
Is-asleep-in-the-next-room-
Take-off-my-clothes-and-
Take-me-now lust —erotic,
Spiritual, emotional, erotic,
Emotion-in-motion,
Make-me-yours,
Piel con piel, hueso con hueso

Translations:
piel con piel, hueso con hueso - skin to skin, bone to bone
boca de piel desnuda - mouth to naked skin
piel de gallina en mi piel desnuda - goose bumps on my naked skin

He had no cage to dance around
Until the hands of the clock aligned
My heart always leaped in
His cardinal direction
Falling asleep and waking
The same time as he
Did I fall into his dreams on
The nights he fell into mine
Did he whisper once
This is not my home
But I will stay as long as I can
Was his suffering worse
Than his dying
He never complained

Tears choked me
Constricted my larynx
My lungs
My heart
Until the pain became so
Unbearable
A silent scream edged through my sobs
I curled my fingers through his fur
His pain wreaked havoc with my soul
I was voiceless next to his moans
My heart rent at our silent good-bye
As his eyes closed
His body relaxed
His last breath
Silently
Expelled
He looked just like he did
When he was
A puppy.

Too much complication
Too little conversation
He turned and walked away
And all she could say was
Good-bye and amen
Sitting in this broken-down room
On this tattered chair
Smoking one more cigarette
Soaked with smoke and tears
An almost-empty glass
Reminding her she really didn't drink
Reminding her of their
Not-quite-completed affair
Reminding her how she crawled
Into bed with him
Their fingertips not quite touching
Sharing the same space
Same time but never
Glancing at the clock
Reminding her she almost
Fell in love with him
Now begins the shroud weaving
Scraped knuckles and tiny bruises
Fight the loom's shuttle of Fate
Half-forgotten conversations fade
Warm nostalgia turns cold
Reminding her she's allergic to alcohol
Good-bye and Amen
